Mary Jane, RN, graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, which was affiliated with Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. I was one of the original members of the hemodialysis unit: we did acutes, chronic patients, home training and had a four bed renal intensive care unit, which we also staffed. I also have a B.A. in Humanities from Maryville University with an emphasis in philosophy. After our two children graduated from high school, my husband and I moved to Charlottesville, where I took a position with UVA in nephrology/renal services. I did vary my interests in nursing through the years, having also worked in plasmapheresis and the surgery clinic at Barnes/Jewish/Christian (BJC) in St. Louis.
Currently, I am working on my Master's degree in nursing via on line classes with Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. I have volunteered for the past four years at Twice is Nice, a donation shop whose proceeds benefit Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet, Virginia. I love spending time with my two grandsons, as well as horseback riding, hiking, yoga and tennis. I also enjoy writing fiction and am a voracious reader.
